Marta Moren Abat is the International Relations Coordinator of the Trade Negotiations and Sustainable Fisheries Partnership Agreements within the European Commission, Directorate General for Maritime and Fisheries. She is an experienced official within the European Commission, dealing with international relations, environmental issues, water, fisheries, trade and development and cooperation. In her current position with the European Commission, she is in charge of negotiation and management of the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership Agreement with Morocco. She also leads negotiations with Cabo Verde and neighboring African countries regarding fisheries.
Before her current position, she held several other positions in the European Commission dealing with water policy and negotiations with third countries representing the Commission and the European Parliament.
She also served as the General Director of Water for Spain, where she was responsible for the definition and implementation of water policies in Spain. Her educational background is as a Civil Engineer and she holds two Master's Degrees, one in Civil Engineering as well as in Business Administration.
She has had extensive international experience covering the European Union, Latin America, South Asia, particularly China, India, and Iran.
